Secure file transfer

Secure file transfer, explained plainly.

Encrypted storage, unguessable links that expire, and optional passwords and download limits. Here is exactly how LetsSend protects what you send, and what it does not claim to do.

Encrypted in transit and at rest

Every upload and download runs over HTTPS, and files are stored encrypted with our cloud storage provider.

Links nobody can guess

Each transfer gets a random 16-character link. Transfers are not listed or searchable anywhere.

Short-lived access

Upload URLs expire after 15 minutes and download URLs after 5. A copied storage address stops working almost immediately.

Deleted on expiry

When a link expires, its files are permanently deleted from storage, not archived somewhere.

Pro

Password protection

Recipients must enter the password before they see anything. Repeated wrong guesses lock that visitor out for 30 minutes.

Pro

Download limits and view once

Cap how many times a link can be used, or make it die after the first download.

What we do not claim

LetsSend is not end-to-end encrypted. Files are encrypted where they are stored, but our systems hold the keys to read them, for example to build the "download all" ZIP for your recipient. We do not look at what you send, and we never sell files or contact details.

If a file must stay unreadable to everyone except the recipient, encrypt it before you upload it. A password-protected AES-256 archive from a tool like 7-Zip works well. Send the file with LetsSend and share the password some other way, such as a phone call or a different messaging app.

A short checklist for sensitive files

Choose the shortest expiry that works for the recipient. Add a password and share it on a different channel to the link. Set a download limit, or use view once for a single recipient. Check with the recipient that the file arrived, then let the link expire.

Our privacy page covers how we handle data, retention and deletion in more detail.

Questions people ask

Is LetsSend end-to-end encrypted?

No. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. If you need that, encrypt the file before uploading and share the password separately.

Who can open my transfer link?

Anyone who has the link, so treat it like a key. Add a password (Pro) if the link might be forwarded, and keep the expiry short.

Do my files pass through your servers?

Uploads go straight from your browser to cloud storage. The one exception is the "download all" ZIP, which our server builds on the fly from storage without keeping a copy.

What happens to my files after the link expires?

They are permanently deleted from storage. Expired transfers are not kept in an archive.

What if someone uses LetsSend to send something harmful?

Every download page has a report link. Transfers that pass our report threshold are switched off automatically and reviewed.
