Link or email: the one difference
Sending by link needs nothing from you. Sending by email is slightly different: because the email goes out on your behalf, we first check the sender address is really yours with a 4-digit code. That one-time check creates a free passwordless account automatically. There is still no form to fill in and no password to remember.
When an account is worth having
You never need one to send. An account becomes useful when you want a history of what you have sent, or when you move to Pro for 200 GB transfers, 30-day links, passwords and download notifications.

Do I need an account to send files?
Not to send by link. Sending by email asks you to confirm your address with a short code, which creates a passwordless account automatically.
Do recipients need an account?
No. Anyone with the link can download until it expires.
Is there a catch?
Free transfers are limited to 5 GB and 10 files a day, and the download page may show one sponsored placement. That is how the free plan is paid for.
How long does my link last?
You choose 3 or 7 days on the free plan. Pro links can last up to 30 days.
